December 2015

This month's newsletter, written by Renee Liming:

As Christmas draws near, let us reminisce about Christmases past.  Do you make it a family affair to cut down your Christmas tree?  Do you prefer balsam, spruce, or fir?  A Charlie Brown tree?  Does each one of your ornaments have meaning?  What are your favorite Christmas songs?  Do you make baked goods with recipes that have been handed down for generations?  What do you serve for the Christmas meal?  Do you take a tour of the city to see all of the lights?  Does your family read the birth story from Matthew or Luke every Christmas season? Does your family watch Miracle on 34th Street or How the Grinch Stole Christmas?  Does your family attend the Children's Mass or Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve?  What Christmas gifts did you receive?  Do you write a letter every year recapping your family adventures?

Writing Prompt:  Take the time to write about your family traditions for future generations.

COMING UP: December 8, 2015 - Join us for an evening of food, fun and fellowship as we celebrate together. We will be sharing our holiday stories and the writing tips that we used to polish these experiences. Members will exchange gifts - a wrapped, gently used book that they want to share with a fellow writer. Lots of laughter; plenty of chatter.

Please join us at our December meeting.

FEEDBACK (CRITIQUE) OPPORTUNITY:
If you want to receive feedback on your work, come early (5:30 p.m.) to meet with others. Bring 6-8 copies of your short piece (300 words or so) for the group to read along as you share. You could bring what you’ve written in response to the prompt above, or something else you’re working on. It can be a portion of a book chapter, or a short article too.

See you at the December meeting!
