September 2012

posted Aug 28, 2012, 12:13 PM by Western Wis Christian Writers Guild   [ updated Mar 28, 2013, 7:09 PM ]
Welcome to the 2012-2013 WWCWG season! We have a great year of writing inspiration all planned out for you, and the leadership team is looking forward to our season launch on September 11.

Our verse for inspiration this year is:

"There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men." (1 Corinthians 12:4-6, NIV)

I love how that sums up our group of writers. We write for different publications, in different styles. Some write for Christians. Others for the general market. Some write for personal pleasure, and others write as a career. But in all, God is at work. I can't wait to see how he works in each of us over the next year.

A big thanks to our leadership team for their work in preparing for this coming season with finding terrific speakers to inspire all of us. Thanks to Sheila Wilkinson, Patti Nicholson, Jennifer Taylor, and Cheryl Frisch, and to Mary Pierce for being our board adviser.

WRITING PROMPT: Jennifer Taylor gave us two great writing prompt ideas this month.

  •       A flashback to elementary school – Write about what you did on your summer vacation
  •       What God has planted in your heart that's almost ready for harvest.

Write a short piece or a journal entry about either one. If you'd like,  you can share your piece during the pre-meeting critique group on September 11.

COMING UP: September 11, 2012 Shine Your Light: Spotlighting Your Message presented by Kathy Carlton Willis all the way from Texas. See the schedule page for more details.

DUES: Annual dues are $25.00 again this year. Visitor fee will be $7.00 per meeting.

MEMBERSHIP FORM: A PDF form is available on the website. Please bring it completed with your check for $25.00 payable to “WWCWG” to the first meeting.

FEEDBACK (CRITIQUE) OPPORTUNITY: If you want to receive feedback on your work, come early (5:30 p.m.) to meet with others. Bring 6-8 copies of your short piece (300 words or so) for the group to read along as you share. You could bring what you’ve written in response to the prompt above, or something else you’re working on. It can be a portion of a book chapter, or a short article too.

We now have a WWCWG Facebook page. We'll be including links to our meeting info so you can easily share it with friends to invite them.

I hope you had a wonderful summer. We're looking forward to seeing you are our next meeting.
